Ian Pace is a pianist of long-established reputation, specializing in the farthest reaches of musical modernism and transcendental virtuosity, as well as a writer and musicologist focusing on issues of performance, music and society and the avant-garde. His main teacher, and a major influence upon his work, was the Hungarian pianist György Sándor, a student of Bartók.

His absolutely vast repertoire of all periods focuses particularly upon music of the 20th and 21st Century. Ian has played in 23 countries and at most major European venues and festivals, including Festival D’Automne in Paris, IRCAM, Ars Musica in Brussels, Wien Modern, and Warsaw Autumn. Matthias Lorenz is a cellist whose main focus has been contemporary music throughout his career, which now spans over 30 years. A versatile freelancer, he is as much at home performing as a soloist as he is performing with his trio Neues Klaviertrio Dresden, or as a member of larger ensembles such as Ostravská Banda, Ensemble Courage, and Elbland-Philharmonie Sachsen. Among his artistic interests, he strives to create concert programs that incorporate new and newest works with the contemporary masterpieces of the second half of the 20th Century, which has led him to premiere works by composers such as Peter Ablinger and Klaus Lang, among others.

Quasars Ensemble, is unique in its breadth of repertoire, consisting of contemporary classical music as well as of the music of the past eras. It confronts the latest contemporary works with the structural principles of the foregone classical music. The ensemble performed concert works of some of the world’s most influential contemporary music composers such as Bent Sørensen, Michael Jarrell, Kaija Saariaho, Toshio Hosokowa, Tristan Murail and Dai Fujikura, with composers themselves in attendance.

In 2012, Quasars Ensemble was selected to take part in International Summer Course for New Music in Darmstadt, Germany.
